Abstract
Diplocaulus minimus Dutuit, 1988, the diplocaulid lepospondyl from the Late Permian of the Argana Basin (Morocco) is revised based on a redescription of the type material, together with a description of recently found specimens. The revised specimens, previously reported to Diplocaulus, prove to be more closely related to the genus Diploceraspis. These animals exhibit a peculiar asymmetry of the skull. They are the only known Gondwanian lepospondyls and their unique co-occurrence with pareiasaurs strengthens the hypotheses of climate-controlled endemism in the end-Permian Pangea.
